Principally Speaking - Judy Bradley
Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Currie as she begins a new educational journey. Mrs. Currie has been offered the opportunity as the principal at Rural Point Elementary School. She will be greatly missed. We welcome Mrs. Pamela James as our new Assistant Principal. Mrs. James joins our family from Henrico Public County Schools. Mrs. James has served in many rolls, not only as a classroom teacher, but also as an administrator. Mrs. Hope Aylor has left our family and we wish her well with her retirement. Mrs. Jacqueline Magill will be teaching fifth grade. She joins our family from Kersey Creek where she taught fifth grade for three years. Ms. Nesmith got married over the summer and her new name is Mrs. Andrews, she will be teaching fifth grade this year. Mrs. Kerr Smith will be teaching kindergarten and Ms. Hartley will be teaching second grade. Ms. Childress has joined the Henry Clay staff and we welcome back Mrs. Ann Utley. We also want to welcome Ms. Helmick as our newest special education paraprofessional. Please join us in welcoming them to their positions. Thank you so much for supporting our students as they continue to grow and develop into young ladies and gentlemen. Preliminary SOL scores from this past May are in and we have much to celebrate. We will continue to work very hard on teaching the new math standards as well as implementing the new reading standards this year. The math test format has also changed to reflect increased rigor and higher order thinking complexity. Please visit the Virginia Department of Education for more information on both the math and reading standards of learning. We will be testing all standards of learning online this year. All students in grades three, four and five will take all of their SOLs online in May and June. Back-To-School night is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th. The evening activities begin in the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m., where some important PTA business will be conducted; this will be followed by classroom visitations. This will be a great opportunity for you to find out about your child’s teacher’s hopes and expectations for the school year and about how you can be an effective partner along our educational journey. Please continue to check our website for updated events and activities here at school. Our math and reading night will be on October 11th. Come on out and enjoy a family evening packed full of reading and math. I would also encourage you to subscribe to Hanover County Public School’s econnect. This will allow you to stay up-to-date with calendar events and receive messages from our PTA as well as our staff. Please visit the Hanover County Public School’s website and at the bottom click on econnect, follow the prompts. All family and friends are welcome in our learning castle. I do want to send a gentle reminder that if you are in the building, you must stop by the office, sign in and obtain a visitor’s sticker. Please wear the visitor’s sticker on your upper extremity so it is clearly visible. We want you to be an active part of our learning community but we also need to keep our children safe. I view this year with great excitement for I believe that with your support and help, Battlefield Park Elementary will once again flourish! I consider myself very blessed to be at Battlefield Park Elementary for so many reasons. On behalf of the school staff, I pledge to you that we will work very hard to make you feel the same way about your children’s elementary school. You are an integral part of our success and we want to do everything possible to enable you to be a meaningful part of this school’s life. With a strong home to school partnership we will continue to be successful in meeting your children’s needs. Sincerely,
