President's Message - Dawn Parent
(January, 2012)- HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR BOBCATS!!! What a great end to 2011. A big thank you to the Hospitality Committee for the baked potato bar and to the parents that sent in desserts for the staff for Parent/Teacher Conference Day. The staff really enjoyed having something hot to eat while meeting with parents. We rocked the Math & Reading night and surpassed our attendance goal. Thank you to Mrs. Scheneck and Mrs. Scearce for putting this event together. We would also like to thank the entire staff who pitched in to help and the Lee Davis Varsity club for volunteering their time. The Room Parent Committee and all volunteers did a great job with the Winter Parties! It was great to walk through the school and see so many parents involved in the class parties. I loved seeing all the smiling children as they left school for winter break. The PTA is busy planning the rest of this school year’s events. The carnival will be back in May. This event is a huge undertaking and we are thankful that Ms. dePass does such a fantastic job. She is seeking support from businesses this year, so if you or a family member has a business and are interested in helping to sponsor this event, please contact Ms. dePass (adepass@hanover.k12.va.us) for more information. The students really enjoy this event and the PTA appreciates everyone’s support. Don’t forget to come out and support our upcoming Spirit Nights. Riverbound ALL DAY sales on January 17th and CiCi’s Pizza from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. Come out and show your support for BPES! Best wishes to you and your family for 2012. Let’s make it another great year at BPES! As always, thank you for supporting the BPES PTA! SOL Testing Information All fifth grade students will be taking their Writing SOLs on Tuesday, March 6th (multiple choice portion) and Wednesday, March 7th (Short Paper portion). March 6th and 7th are both full instructional days. Upon completion of SOL testing, students will proceed through their daily schedule. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Average testing time is 1 and ½ hours for the Multiple Choice and 2 and ½ hours for the Short Paper. We respectfully ask that your student be on time to school and that any appointments be scheduled for the afternoon. We also ask you to help your child get a good night’s rest and provide him/her with a healthy breakfast. And finally, please encourage your child to do his/her best! Students are encouraged to bring a book to read after they complete their test in order to ensure all students have a fair opportunity to work in a quiet testing environment. Thank you so much for your support! If you have questions please call me at 723-3600 or email Nikki Currie at ncurrie@hcps.us.
The BPES Watch D.O.G.S. Program is HERE!
Watch D.O.G.S. monitor the entrance during morning bus unloading, monitor the lunchroom and hallways, help out at recess, work with kids in the classrooms, and have lunch with their child! We have a large calendar posted on the wall at BPES that you can review and sign up for dates if you are able to volunteer our time. This program is open to any adult male role model in the life of one of our students - fathers, older brothers, uncles, grand-dads… Questions and or comments may be directed to Richard Troxel @ rtroxel@hcps.us or calling 804.723.3613. Spotlight on Business PartnersBattlefield Park Elementary School would like to thank our 2010-2011 business partners for their continued support and generosity.
